Richmond, Va. – Elon University football sophomore punter
Jeff Yurk has been named the CAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week after helping the Phoenix to a 26-0 shutout win over long-time rival Wofford Saturday.
Yurk averaged 44.0 yards on five punts, pinning Wofford inside the 15-yard line three times as Elon recorded its first shutout in five years. All five of Yurk's punts traveled at least 41 yards and none were returned. He was critical in forcing Wofford to drive the length of the field, a feat they were unable to accomplish during the contest.
For Yurk, it is his first career CAA Player of the Week recognition and the first of the 2022 season for the Elon football team.
Now 1-1 on the season and receiving votes in both major FCS top 25 polls, Elon will host Gardner-Webb Saturday at 6 p.m. for the team's home opener. Prior to the game, Elon will hold its annual Hall of Fame ceremony at 2 p.m. inside Schar Center, recognizing the 2022 class of Elon Sports Hall of Fame inductees – Ali Ford, Jeannie Hairston-Eason, Tony Pigott and Cameron Silverman.
