Helen Sarikulaya and
Miray Konar each won their respective singles flights as the Elon women's tennis team wrapped up a successful showing Sunday at the Elon Fall Invitational.
"It was a great day and a great weekend," said head coach
Elizabeth Anderson. "It was exciting to be back playing matches, and we had a great turnout on a beautiful weekend at our facility. We're excited to see Julie, Helen and Miray win their flights, and are looking forward to preparing for our tournament next weekend at UNCG."
Ball won the Phoenix East final, defeating ETSU's Ralitsa Alexandrova, 6-0, 6-4. It marked the second straight year Ball won her singles flight at the Elon Fall Invitational.
Sarikulaya and Konar also went undefeated in singles in their Phoenix debuts. Sarikulaya, a freshman, beat Richmond's Marta Buendia, 6-2, 6-2, to win the Parham East final. In the Owens East final, Konar — a transfer from Western Carolina — rallied to upend James Madison's Reka Matko, 0-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Shauna Galvin also turned in a singles wins, besting Virginia Tech's Taylor Rieckert, 6-2, 6-1.
Elon will continue its fall slate at the UNCG Duals, set for Sept. 23-25.
