BURLINGTON, N.C. – Freshman
Ashley Lafontaine birdied her final hole to earn her first career win Tuesday at the third annual Elon Invitational. The Elon University women's golf team also won the team competition for its second straight victory to begin the fall season.

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
Lafontaine delivered her second straight round of 68 to win by one shot. Three other Elon players finished in the top 10 in the individual standings, as
Apple Ngamwong and
Lotte Fox finished tied for third and
Annabelle Ackroyd tied for sixth.
Elon's A team posted the low score of the week in the final round, firing a 4-under par 280 to finish the week at 2-under par. William & Mary finished second with a 23-over par 875 and UNC Greensboro came in third with a 27-over par 879. Elon's B team tied for fifth in the team standings after shooting a 19-over par 303 in the final round.
"We had a great finish to the day having a 4-under score," head coach
Chris Dockrill said. "It was our goal to shoot under par this week and we achieved that, so we feel very fortunate."
HIGHLIGHTS
- Ashley Lafontaine birdied the 18th hole to earn her first win in her second collegiate event. The freshman made four birdies in the final round and shot under par on both nines. Lafontaine averaged a score of 3.91 on par-4s, tied for best in the field.
- A final round 68 propelled Apple Ngamwong into a tied for third in the individual standings. The junior birdied three of her first five holes and posted a front nine score of 32, the lowest nine-hole score of the week for Elon.
- Lotte Fox posted a final round 72 to tie for third in the individual standings. The junior made 13 pars in the final round and finished with a team-high 37 pars for the tournament.
- Annabelle Ackroyd carded a 74 in the final round to tie for sixth on the individual leaderboard. The senior was tied for third in the field in par-3 scoring (3.00).
- Senior Svarin Yuenyong ranked second in the field in par-3 scoring (2.92) and was the only Elon player to average under par on the par-3 holes for the tournament. She shot a final round 72, her best score of the week, to finish alone in 12th place.
- Annie Wu was the top finisher on Elon's B team, as the freshman fired a final round 75 to finish in a tie for 19th place.
- Andrea Asmundsdottir led the Phoenix in par-5 scoring for the week (4.78).
- Annabelle Ackroyd, Ashley Lafontaine and Apple Ngamwong each made 10 birdies to tie for the most in the field.
- Elon's A team led the field in par-3 scoring for the week (3.05) and Elon's B team ranked second (3.18). Elon's A team also paced the field in par-4 scoring (4.02).
- The Phoenix made a tournament best 44 birdies.
UP NEXT
The Phoenix will split to compete in two tournaments on Sept. 26-27 – the Aggie Invitational in Greensboro and the Boston College Intercollegiate.
