Charleston, S.C. – Elon Football graduate transfer quarterback
Matthew McKay has been named to the College Football Performance Awards FCS National Performer of the Year Watch List. The organization has named 38 players to the list, which includes performances from week one.
The 2022 CFPA National FCS Performer of the Year will be announced Jan. 13, 2023.
McKay dazzled in his debut for Elon, going 19-for-32 for 333 yards and four total touchdowns (two passing and two rushing), at Vanderbilt. McKay also ran for 52 yards and almost helped the Phoenix overcome a 25-point third quarter deficit in a 42-31 loss against the SEC school.
Originally signing with North Carolina State, McKay spent three years in Raleigh, playing in 11 games for the Wolfpack between the 2018 and 2019 seasons. He then transferred to Montana State, leading the team to the FCS playoffs in 2021, completing 62 percent of his passes for 2,037 yards, 17 touchdowns and only three interceptions.
Elon football returns to action Saturday as the Phoenix play at long-time rival Wofford at 6 p.m. Elon will play its home opener Sept. 17 against Gardner-Webb at 6 p.m. inside Rhodes Stadium.
