ELON, N.C. –
Julie Ball has been tabbed as the Colonial Athletic Association's Player of the Week, while
Miray Konar and
Helen Sarikulaya have been selected as the CAA's Doubles Team of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Ball is off to a 2-0 start in singles this season, as the senior has posted wins against No. 2 North Carolina and Campbell. She earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the No. 5 spot against North Carolina's Lindsay Zink in Elon's season opener on Jan. 13, and backed that performance up with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Abbie Tyler of Campbell in the No. 4 position on Jan. 20.
Ball has won all four of her singles sets and has been the first player to finish in both of Elon's matches. The Barcelona, Spain, native has won 24 of 29 games in her singles contests and has won three of her sets with a 6-1 score. Since joining Elon last season, Ball holds a 14-5 record in singles and has won eight of her last nine matches.
Konar and Sarikulaya both earned their first dual doubles wins for the Phoenix on Jan. 20 against Campbell, as the duo teamed up to defeat Tamsin Hart and Mialy Ranaivo of Campbell 6-3 in the No. 3 position. The win was Elon's first in a doubles match this season. Both players also went on to win their singles matches against the Camels.
The Phoenix returns to the court on Friday and Saturday for matches against Houston and Rice.
