EDISTO ISLAND, S.C. -- Sophomore Annie Wu and graduate student Annabelle Ackroyd are both in the top 10 as the Elon University women's golf team sits alone in fifth place following Monday's first round at the Edisto Island Invitational. College of Charleston is hosting the tournament at the par-70, 5,816-yard Plantation Course at Edisto in Edisto Island, S.C.
A 1-over par 141 has Wu in a tie for fourth while a 2-over par has Ackroyd in a tie for eighth. As a team, Elon shot a 22-over par 582 to sit in solo fifth place in the team standings. College of Charleston leads the tournament after firing a 4-over par 564, while Georgia Southern is in second at 567 (+7) and East Carolina third at 575 (+15).
HIGHLIGHTS
- Annie Wu posted the low score of the day for the Phoenix with an even-par 70 in the opening round that included four birdies. In her second round, Wu carded a score of 71 to move her up two spots on the leaderboard in a tie for fourth. She led the team in birdies with eight.
- Back-to-back rounds of 71 have Annabelle Ackroyd in a tie for eighth. Ackroyd leads the team in par-4 scoring (4.05) and par-5 scoring (4.67).
- After an opening round of 79, Ashley Lafontaine carded a 2-over par 72 and is tied for 49th on the individual leaderboard. The sophomore paces the Phoenix in pars with 25.
- Lotte Fox shaved four points off her opening round score, shooting a 74 in the second round to stand in a tie for 54th. Fox is tied for second on the team in pars with 24.
- Andrea Asmundsdottir made an eagle on the par-5 hole 10 in her opening round to help post a 36-hole total of 154 (+14). She is tied for 66th place after day one.
- As an individual, Charlotte Scully carded a 2-over par 72 in the first round and a 13-over par 83 in the second round to sit tied for 70th. She had three birdies and 21 pars on the day.
- Sakura Kawakami competed as an individual and posted a 36-hole total of 157 (+17) to tie for 75th.
