Elon Falls To Bradley In Day One Of GSU Thanksgiving Tournament

ATLANTA, GA. — A late comeback for the Elon women's basketball team (1-4) was not enough as Bradley (2-2) came out victorious 66-59.

Iycez Adams was a staple for the Phoenix on both sides of the court scoring a career-high 18 points while grabbing a team-high nine boards. She went 81.8% (9-for-11) from the floor while adding a season-high three blocks.

"Unfortunately we did not come out on the winning side today. I felt like we did not get off to a good start defensively and that's the thing we want to be able to hang our hats on is defense and defensive rebounding," said head coach Charlotte Smith. "We clearly didn't get that done today but tomorrow is another opportunity to be the best versions of ourselves."

THE RUNDOWN
  • Regina Walton got off to a hot start scoring four quick points for the Phoenix. From there, teams traded baskets throughout the quarter with Elon gaining a two-point lead thanks to an Ava Leroux layup. Both teams traded baskets the remainder of the quarter with Bradley on top 17-16 after the first 10 minutes of play.
  • The Braves went on a 14-2 run in the second quarter to gain a 31-18 lead. The Phoenix responded with an 8-0 run credited to three-pointers from Ajia James and Walton along with a Ruby Willard layup. Bradley entered halftime with a 32-26 lead. In the half, Elon forced eight turnovers and outscored Bradley 16-10 in the paint.
  • Bradley opened the third quarter with a 12-4 run extending their lead to 13. A pair of buckets from Adams and Maraja Pass got Elon within single digits. The Phoenix ended the third quarter on a 6-0 run still trailing the Braves 47-42.
  • Elon quickly cut Bradley's lead to two points thanks to Leroux's second chance layup and back-to-back buckets from Adams. The Braves outscored the Phoenix 16-11 in the final seven minutes of play to secure a 66-59 win.
