Elon Falls To Old Dominion Tuesday Evening

NORFOLK, VA. — The Elon University women's basketball team fell to Old Dominion 60-29 on Tuesday evening inside Chartway Arena. 

Regina Walton led the team with nine points followed by Iycez Adams with seven points and Maraja Pass with five points.

"Tonight is just one of those nights when you realize that it's just not your night," said head coach Charlotte Smith. "There wasn't much that we could do tonight to get a rhythm and get things going and this is one of those games we just have to flush it and move forward." 
  
THE RUNDOWN
  • Old Dominion came out to a strong 9-1 lead midway through the first quarter. The Phoenix then went on an 8-2 run of their own to get within two as the Monarchs led 11-9 at the end of the first quarter.
  • The Monarchs scored first to open the second quarter before a floater from Maraja Pass and an Iycez Adams tied the game at 13-13. Elon would only score two more points compared to Old Dominion's 17 giving the Monarchs a 30-15 entering halftime. 
  • Old Dominion outscored Elon 30-14 in the final 20 minutes of play to seal a 60-29 victory.
NOTES 
  • Regina Walton was the leading scorer for the Phoenix, netting nine points with three rebounds, one steal and one assist. 
  • Maraja Pass led Elon on the glass with six boards and added two assists to her totals.
  • In the first half, the Phoenix outnumbered the Monarchs in steals (6-3) and blocks (2-1). 
  • Elon struggled to get their shots to fall, combining to shoot 23.4% (11-for-47) from the floor.
UP NEXT
  • Elon will return to action Saturday when it welcomes Wingate to Schar Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
