MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – Junior
Apple Ngamwong shared the individual title at the RiverTowne Invitational as the Elon University women's golf team placed seventh in the event on Tuesday. Chalreston Southern hosted the tournament at the par-72, 6,146-yard RiverTowne Country Club.
FULL TEAM & INDIVIDUAL STANDINGS
Ngamwong carded an even-par 72 to win the second individual title of her career. She shared champion honors with Susana Olivares of Jacksonville. The two players finished with a 54-hole total of 213 (3-under par).
With a 54-hole score of 892, the Phoenix placed seventh in the team standings. High Point won the event after shooting 289 in the final round to finish with a 54-hole total of 869. Tulane and host Charleston Southern tied for second with an 873.
THE HIGHLIGHTS
- Apple Ngamwong birdied the par-5 third hole, her final of the day, to earn a share of the individual championship. The junior made three birdies on the round to offset two bogeys and a double bogey. She was one of six players to finish under par for the tournament and made 11 birdies for the week, tied for the second most in the field. She was also tied for fourth in the field on the week in par-5 scoring average (4.67) and eighth in par-4 scoring average (4.00).
- The victory was the second of Ngamwong's Elon career, as she also shared the individual title at last year's Chris Banister Classic. Ngamwong joins freshman Ashley Lafontaine as tournament winners for the Phoenix this season, as Lafontaine was victorious at the Elon Invitational on Sept. 20.
- Lotte Fox posted a 4-over par 76 in the final round to finish in a tie for 34th place. The junior made four birdies and finished the week 2-under par on par-5 holes.
- Annabelle Ackroyd finished in a tie for 48th place with a final round score of 79. The senior finished the week with the second-best par-5 scoring average (4.50) for the week, as she was 6-under par on par-5s.
- Ashley Lafontaine and Svarin Yuenyong finished tied for 63rd and 66th, respectively. Yuenyong made three birdies on her round.
- As a team, Elon tied for the best par-5 scoring average in the field for the event (4.85).
