ELON, N.C. – Seniors Megan Grant and Claudia Penny along with sophomore Chloe Hatzopoulos of the Elon University softball team were named to the 2023 Academic All-District Team as announced by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) on Tuesday afternoon, May 16.
 
Grant, a psychology major with a 3.98-grade point average, started all 48 games for the Phoenix this season and is currently second in the Colonial Athletic Association in walks with 32. The Vinton, Va., native finished third on the team in doubles (six) and was second on the squad in on-base percentage at .410. She also drove in a career-high 17 RBI this season.
 
An exercise science major with a 3.697 GPA, Hatzopoulos concluded her sophomore season leading the Phoenix in home runs (11) while being second on the team in slugging percentage (.568). The Huntersville, N.C., native was named the CAA Player of the Week and the Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Player of the Week after hitting five home runs with 12 RBI and seven runs scored at North Carolina A&T on May 5-6.
 
Penny rounded out the Phoenix Academic All-District selections. A biology major with a 3.683 GPA, Penny enjoyed a terrific 2023 campaign, leading the Phoenix with a .353 batting average, slugging percentage (.576), hits (49), RBI (41) and doubles (16) while tying for second on the squad with five homers. The Apex, N.C., native is in the top-10 of the CAA in batting average, slugging percentage, OPS (.990), RBI and doubles and is 13^th in the nation in doubles per game (0.33).
 
The 2023 Academic All-District® Softball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom. Honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced on June 6.
