Hannah Miller Closes NCAA Regional Competition With Strong Steeplechase Result

Jacksonville, Fla. – Elon University senior Hannah Miller placed 26th overall in the 3,000m steeplechase at the NCAA Division I Track & Field East Region Preliminary Round Saturday, hosted by the University of North Florida. Miller finished nine spots higher than her entry seed of No. 35.

At the midpoint of her heat, Miller was last of the 15 runners in her heat, but she picked off a runner at a time to finish ninth. She finished with the second-fastest time among the five Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) competitors in the field with a time of 10:31.67. Notre Dame's Olivia Markezich won the race at 9:52.54 and Ole Miss' Kristel Van Den Berg was the final qualifier to the national championship in 10:03.25.

With the race, the Elon University track & field team concludes its season. The Phoenix won the CAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship for the third consecutive year and sent three competitors to the NCAA East Region Preliminary Round. The outdoor season followed a successful indoor season that included a CAA Championship in the league's inaugural indoor championship. Elon has captured first place in every CAA women's cross country and women's track & field championship held since the spring of 2019.
