ELON, N.C. – Junior Scott Vatne of the Elon University men's soccer team was named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Midfielders Watch List as released by the organization on Friday, Aug. 11. The Klepp, Norway native was among 25 midfielders selected for the preseason.
 
A first team All-CAA selection in 2022, Vatne is the Phoenix's leading returning scorer in goals (three) and total points (12). He tied the team-lead in assists last fall with six and led the maroon and gold in total shots with 39 with 20 of those coming on goal. Vatne concluded his sophomore season by being selected as a first team All-Atlantic Region by the United Soccer Coaches Association.
 
Vatne was instrumental in helping the Phoenix capture its first-ever outright CAA regular-season title last fall while advancing to its second straight league championship game. Elon later earned an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament, its first appearance in the national tournament since 2015.
 
The Phoenix opens its 2023 preseason schedule on Sunday, Aug. 12, hosting Cape Fear Community College in an exhibition match. That contest is slated for 5 p.m. at Rudd Field.
