Volleyball Hosts UNCW For First Home CAA Series

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University volleyball team (3-8, 0-2 CAA) is set to host its first home CAA series of the season against UNCW on Saturday and Sunday. Both matches at Schar Center will begin at 2 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT 
  • The Phoenix began CAA play last weekend with a pair of matches on the road against Hofstra. The Pride swept Elon in the first match and after losing the second set won both the third and fourth set to earn a victory on Sunday. 
  • Cameron Lanier was named CAA Rookie of the Week after posting her first career double-double on Saturday with 13 kills and 14 digs. The freshman had two service aces in both matches and four total blocks. Lanier averaged 3.57 kills per set on a .273 hitting percentage, adding 2.57 digs per set in the weekend series.  
  • Jessica Parker added 59 assists on the weekend. She now has recorded double-digit assists in every match this season and has eclipsed 20 in five of her last 11 matches for the maroon and gold. 
  • Freshman Kyla Johnson delivered career-highs with five kills and 4.0 blocks in Saturday's match. 
  • On Sunday, Keira Kasten recorded a career-high nine kills on 21 attempts while hitting .238. 
  • Elon posted a season-best hitting percentage in Saturday's match (.324). 
  
PHOENIX FACTS 
  • With 227 assists and 6.31 assists per set, Parker is No. 8 in the CAA in both categories. She leads the team in aces with 11 and ranks second on the team in digs with 72. 
  • Elon's freshman class is off to a strong start this season. Lanier leads the team in kills (94) and blocks (25.0). Kyla Johnson leads the team averaging 0.91 blocks per set followed by fellow freshman middle blocker Caroline Berlekamp who is averaging 0.80. 
  • Senior Jordan Gower ranks third in the league in digs per set at 3.92 and fifth in total digs with 141. She remains fifth in the Elon record book for total career digs with 1,494.  
  • Lanier ranks No. 10 in the CAA in points this season with 111.5 averaging 3.38 per set.  
  • As a team, Elon ranks seventh in the CAA in blocks per set (1.86), fifth in digs per set (14.25) and ninth in total blocks (67.0).   
  
THE MATCHUP  
  • UNCW leads the all-time series against Elon 24-19.  
  • The Phoenix has won the last six matchups against the Seahawks, most recently being the five-set thriller match that Elon won in Wilmington, N.C. on Nov. 6, 2022. 
  • The last time the maroon and gold fell to UNCW was at home on Nov. 1, 2019, when the Seahawks won in four sets at Schar Center. 
  
SCOUTING UNCW 
  • UNCW is 5-7 overall and 2-0 in CAA play after sweeping NC A &T in both matches last weekend.   
  • The Seahawks were picked to finish 11th in the CAA Preseason Poll.  
  • UNCW has three players who have registered at least 80 kills this season. Alexa Brezeault (90), Caitlyn Callahan (86) and Katie Lanz (80) pace the team.  
  • As a team, the Seahawks are third in the conference in assists per set (12.02) and fourth in total assists (517). 
  • Two Seahawks players split the setting duties for the team. Annabelle Schall paces the team and ranks No. 9 in the CAA in assists (219) and assists per set (5.92). Morgan Galligan follows with 209 assists and ranks third on the team in assists per set with 5.10.  
  • Charlotte Cronister has a team-high 135 digs, the seventh most in the conference. 
  • UNCW is led by fourth-year head coach Dottie Hampton 
 
UP NEXT  
The Phoenix will host Northeastern next Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 during their alumni weekend. Saturday's match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. while Sunday's match is set to start at 3 p.m.
