Gower Surpasses 1,500 Career Digs

ELON, N.C. – In the middle of her fifth year with the Phoenix, Jordan Gower has added a cherry on top of an already illustrious career with the Phoenix, as she surpassed 1,500 career digs on Saturday against UNCW. Gower becomes just the fifth player in program history to reach 1,500 career digs.

Gower said she did not know she hit this accomplishment during Elon's match against the Seahawks, but attributed it to the team's middle blockers that were on the court with her Saturday.

"My blockers were doing a great job for me so it was easier to dig behind them," Gower said. "Props to them."

On the day, Gower recorded 22 total digs, which tied her season-high. This is the third time this season she has compiled 22 digs in a match, with the other two coming against Charleston Southern and Georgia State earlier in the season.

"I really tried to stay stopped on defense. Getting stops for the attackers who were attacking the ball was really key for me," Gower said. "Staying disciplined and getting to my position really quick was what worked for me today."

Adding these 22 digs to her career total, Gower now has 1,516, which continues to solidify her in fifth on Elon's all-time digs list. Gower said she is thankful for her teammates over the years that have helped push her to achieve this monumental total.

"I don't really like to focus on numbers too much and stats and all that, but I think it's a great accomplishment for me and I really owe it all to my teammates who have been there to push me each and every day in practice," Gower said.

Gower said she is going to take adding to her total one day at a time and focus on the matches ahead of her and what she can do to help her team succeed.

"[I'm] trying to get as many digs and as many balls off the floor as I can," Gower said. "Just focusing on the next ball and not focusing on too much too far ahead."
