Jalen Hampton has been named the CAA Offensive Player of the Week after rushing for 169 yards and four touchdowns Saturday in the Phoenix's 28-24 win at Campbell.
With the win, Elon improved to 2-0 in CAA play. For Hampton, it was his second consecutive game with at least 150 rushing yards. He also tied the program's FCS record for rushing touchdowns in a game, a mark that had not been touched since AJ Harris did the same in 2010. Three of those touchdowns came in the second quarter as Elon rebounded from a 3-0 deficit to lead 21-3 at the half.
Following a third quarter Campbell touchdown to get within 11 points, Elon marched back down the field and scored on Hampton's four TD to give the Phoenix a 28-10 lead. Campbell rallied late with a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns, but it was not enough.
With the 169 yards, Hampton surpassed 1,500 career rushing yards in just his 15
th career game. He now ranks eighth in the program's FCS history with 1,541 career rushing yards.
Hampton leads the CAA with 488 rushing yards in 2023, an average of 122.0 per game. He ranks seventh nationally in both categories. He is also eighth in the country with five rushing touchdowns and 18
th nationally in all-purpose yards at 129.5 per contest.
Elon (2-2, 2-0 CAA) will host undefeated William & Mary (4-0, 2-0 CAA) in an important CAA game Saturday. It will be Family Weekend for the Phoenix with a kick time of 2:00 p.m. Elon and William & Mary, along with Delaware, sit atop the league's standings.
