Elon Falls to William & Mary On Sunday

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University women's basketball (5-12, 1-3) team fell in a tough home contest to the William & Mary Tribe (7-8, 3-1), 62-43. 

Iycez Adams paced the Phoenix offensively with 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to record her third double-double of the season. Adams also contributed three blocks her sixth time this season blocking three shots. 

THE RUNDOWN
  • The Tribe came out hot in the opening quarter outsourcing the Phoenix 17-6. Four of Elon's six points came from Iycez Adams
  • Elon battled back in the second quarter 11-2 run to get within two at 19-17 with five minutes remaining in the half. William & Mary ended the quarter with a set of free throws before a Jessica Booth layup closed the half with the Tribe ahead 25-20. 
  • The teams traded baskets to start the third quarter with back-to-back three-pointers from Ajia James cut the Tribe lead to three at 34-31. William & Mary went on a 9-0 run to end the third quarter with a 43-31 lead.
  • The Tribe outscored Elon 19-12 in the final quarter to secure a 62-43 victory.
NOTES
  • Iycez Adams recorded her third career double-double, netting 13 points and grabbing 10 boards. 
  • Ajia James got hot in the third quarter going 3-for-4 from the field including two from beyond the arc. 
  • Pass led the Phoenix in assists with four while Adams paced the team in blocks with three.
  • Both teams committed 20 or more turnovers in today's contest. 
  • The Phoenix have yet to allow more than 65 points in conference play.
  • Elon outnumbered William & Mary in steals (11-10) with Jessica Booth and Pass sharing the team lead with three apiece. 
  • This is Elon's third consecutive game grabbing double-digit steals.
  • Elon continues to push defensively by allowing just 55.3 points per game in conference play.
UP NEXT
  • Elon heads north next weekend to take on Monmouth Friday, Jan. 19, before facing Hofstra Sunday, Jan. 21. Game time for Friday is scheduled for 7 p.m. at OceanFirst Bank Center while Sunday's home tip is slated for 2 p.m. inside David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex.
