HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Stony Brook led 5-2 early in set one but a 3-0 Phoenix run knotted the score at 5-5 thanks to a kill from Sydney Love, an ace from Casey Brower, and a block from Cameron Lanier and Catherine Rucker. The Seawolves won 12 straight points to go up 17-5. The teams traded points and a late 3-1 run from the Phoenix got them within 10 at 19-9 but Stony Brook would eventually take set one 25-12.
  • Elon came out to a 3-1 start over the Seawolves in set two. The teams went back and forth with no team leading by more than two until Elon went on a 5-0 run late in the set to go up 19-14 and force a Stony Brook timeout. Out of the break, the Seawolves composed a 7-2 run to knot the score at 22-22. Elon went on a 3-0 run thanks to a kill from Love, a Berlekamp and Lanier block, and a Seawolves error to close the set 25-22.
  • Stony Brook opened set three with a 6-0 lead before Elon chipped away at the deficit and got within four at 9-5. The Seawolves won five of the next six points to extend their lead to 14-6. From there, the teams traded points, and Stony Brook gained their first double-digit lead late in the set at 21-11. Elon rallied off three more points, but the Seawolves ended set three 25-15.
  • The Phoenix bounced back leading 4-1 to start the fourth set. Later, Stony Brook got within two at 6-4 but a 3-1 run from the Phoenix extended their lead to four at 9-5 to force a Seawolves timeout. Out of the timeout, Stony Brook won five of the next six points and tied the score at 10-10, but Elon responded with a 4-0 run to regain a four-point lead at 14-10. The Seawolves cut away at the Phoenix lead and trailed by one at 17-16 until kills from Keira Kasten and Lanier put Elon back up 19-16. Stony Brook went on a 7-2 run to gain a lead late in the frame at 23-21.
