Four Phoenix Players Score Double-Figures In Victory Over Longwood

FARMVILLE, VA. — The Elon women's basketball team had four players score double-figures in their 74-67 win at Longwood on Tuesday evening.
 
Raven Preston led the team with 19 points followed by Laila Anderson (12), Jayda Angel (12) and  Iycez Adams (10).

THE RUNDOWN
  • Kamryn Doty opened the scoring for the Phoenix with a quick three-pointer, giving Elon an early 3-0 lead. Longwood briefly held a 4-3 lead before the teams exchanged scores. Back-to-back layups from Iycez Adams and Laila Anderson later extended Elon's lead to 15-9. A three-pointer from Jayda Angel pushed the Phoenix's advantage to nine at 18-9, and an offensive rebound and putback by Raven Preston capped the first quarter with Elon ahead 20-11.
  • Hannah Dereje added two quick buckets to start the second quarter, increasing Elon's lead to 24-11 with 8:58 remaining. Although Longwood narrowed the gap to nine at 24-15, a three-pointer from Alyssa Ervin and a layup by Adams restored Elon's cushion to 29-15. The Lancers closed the quarter on a 12-6 run, sending the teams into halftime with Elon leading 35-27.
  • The teams traded baskets to start the third quarter, with Doty knocking down another three-pointer to maintain Elon's eight-point lead at 40-32. Longwood answered with a 13-1 run, claiming their first lead since the first quarter at 45-41. The Phoenix regrouped, tying the game at 45-45 and closing the quarter on a 6-1 run to take a 51-46 lead into the final 10 minutes.
  • The teams traded baskets to open the fourth quarter until back-to-back layups from Laila Anderson gave Elon a 59-51 advantage with 6:48 remaining. A quick three-pointer from Longwood cut the deficit to five at 59-54, and consecutive Lancer jumpers brought them within four at 62-58. The Phoenix responded with a 7-0 run to extend their lead to double digits at 69-58. Longwood fought back to get within five at 70-65 with 36 seconds left, but Elon sealed the 74-67 victory by converting key free throws in the closing moments.
NOTES
  • The Phoenix returned the same starters in Iycez Adams, Laila Anderson, Kamryn Doty, Maraja Pass and Raven Preston.
  • Preston posted her third double-double of the season, leading the team with 17 points, 13 rebounds, and two blocks.
  • Laila Anderson and Jayda Angel each tallied 12 points, marking their fourth double-figure scoring performances of the season.
  • Pass tied her career high with eight assists and shared the team lead in steals (2) with Preston.
  • Hannah Dereje contributed a season-high eight points, while Kamryn Doty added six points, shooting 2-for-3 from beyond the arc.
  • The Phoenix outperformed the Lancers in defensive rebounds (31-28), points in the paint (48-36), and assists (16-10).
UP NEXT
  • The maroon and gold will return to Schar Center on Wednesday, Dec. 4, to host Furman for Education Day. Tipoff is set for 11 a.m.
