Phoenix Gets Over Sunday Hump, Elon Beats Campbell

Elon, N.C.- Redshirt-sophomore Alex Duffey put together the finest hitting performance of his career and helped lift the Elon Phoenix (11-16, 1-5 CAA) to a high-scoring win over the Campbell Fighting Camels (19-8, 3-3 CAA) at Latham Park. The Phoenix took game three over Campbell on Easter Sunday, 13-12.

Ryan Sprock produced his best game on the mound of the season against Campbell. The sophomore went five innings and allowed just two hits while striking out four batters. Kolby Pascarelli came in and shut the door with a strikeout in the ninth inning to close the game out.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Ryan Sprock began the game with a flurry of strikeouts. Sprock struck out the side to get the Phoenix to the bottom of the first unscathed.
  • The Phoenix responded with two runs in the bottom of the second following another clean inning from Sprock. Following a pair of singles from Alex Duffey and Vince Fattore, the bases loaded for Tanner Holliman. Holliman walked to score Connor Offshack from third then Kenny Mallory Jr. brought home a run on a fielder's choice.
  • Elon brought in four more runs in the bottom of the third inning. Alex Duffey singled home Ryan Sprock from second base, then scored on a James Broderick single to give Elon a five-run lead. The Phoenix tacked on another run on a Mallory single through the left side.
  • Sprock continued to deal, then got another boost from Alex Duffey. Duffey blasted a three-run home run over the left field wall to give the Phoenix a 9-0 lead.
  • Campbell would finally answer in the top of the sixth and score a trio of runs to break into the Elon lead.
  • Fattore capped his day with the first triple of the season for Elon. The triple down the left field line scored a pair of runs for Elon to give the Phoenix an eight-run cushion.
  • The Camels struck back with a pair of runs in the seventh inning before the Phoenix put up two of their own on a double from Charlie Granatell and a sacrifice fly from Sprock.
  • Campbell poured on seven runs in the final two innings before being shut down by the combination of Sam Nomura and Kolby Pascarelli to put away the Phoenix win, 13-12.
