SOUTHPORT, N.C. – The Elon University women's golf team sits in fifth place following the first 18 holes of the CAA Championship. Annie Wu is pacing the Phoenix in a tie for ninth place after carding a 77 (+5). The tournament is being held at The Reserve Club at St. James, a par-72, 6,013-yard course in Southport, N.C.

The Phoenix shot an opening round of 318 (+30) led by Wu landing them in solo fifth place. UNCW is leading the field with a 20-over par 308, followed by College of Charleston with a 309 (+21).
 
HIGHLIGHTS 

• Annie Wu leads the Phoenix after day one as she is tied for ninth with a 5-over par 77. Wu carded two birdies on her front nine and back-to-back birdies on holes 14 and 15. She shares the lead in the entire field in birdies with four and is second on the team in par-5 scoring average (5.00).
• Apple Ngamwong is in a tie for 11th place after carding a 6-over par 78 in her opening round. Ngamwong ended her front nine strong with birdies on holes seven and nine and is tied for the lead in the field in par-4 scoring average (4.20).  
• Annabelle Ackroyd sits tied for 22nd place after carding an 80 (+8) on day one. Ackroyd leads the team in pars (12) and shares the team-lead in par-3 scoring average (3.25).
• Lotte Fox shot an 11-over par (83) that included three birdies and seven pars in her opening round to tie for 32^nd place. Fox made back-to-back birdies on holes six and seven and leads the team in par-5 scoring average (4.75) and shares the team-lead in par-3 scoring average (3.25).
• Ashley Lafontaine carded an 84 (+12) in her opening round to tie for 35th place. She is tied with Ngamwong for second on the team in pars with eight.
• As a team, Elon is third in the field in birdies with nine and fifth in the field in par-4 scoring (4.58) and pars (41).
