HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kolby Pascarelli got the start for the Phoenix on the mound and sat down the opening three Demon Deacon batters to get some early momentum.
- Pascarelli retired the first two batters in the second inning but got into a jam following back-to-back singles. Carson Wehner relieved Pascarelli and retired the next batter via a flyout to retire the side.
- Elon picked up their first hit of the game on a Ryan Sprock single in the bottom of the second inning. Will Vergantino reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to third on two wild pitches but couldn't come around to score.
- Wehner sat the next six Demon Deacons he saw down in order to get through the top of the third and fourth innings.
- Elon got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning. Following a leadoff single from Charlie Granatell, Alex Duffey gave the Phoenix the lead with a 408-foot blast to right field.
- The Phoenix plated another run in the bottom of the fourth when with two-outs, Will Vergantino stole second and then scored on a double down the right field line from former Demon Deacon, James Broderick. Broderick's double gave the Phoenix a 3-0 lead going into the fifth.
- The Phoenix was able to turn a double play following a leadoff single from the Deacs in the fifth.
- Tristan Corcoran delivered a clean sixth inning and got out of a two-on, two-out jam to keep the shutout intact.
- After getting two runners on in the seventh, Sam Nomura dug deep and forced a round out right back to himself to get out of a two-on jam.
- Nomura had to dig deep again in the eighth inning. With a runner in scoring position, Nomura put away Jack Winnay with a strikeout swinging to get the Phoenix to the bottom half of the frame with the 3-0 lead.
- In the ninth inning, Nomura retired the first two batters, but two singles and a walk loaded the bases for the top of the Demon Deacon lineup. With the go-ahead run at the plate, Nomura caught the batter swinging and held onto Elon's first shutout of the season and their third straight win at Latham Park over a top-10 team.
