Elon Drops Game One To Stony Brook

Stony Brook, N.Y.- The Elon Phoenix (11-18, 1-6 CAA) fell to the Stony Brook Sea Wolves (13-15, 2-5 CAA) Friday afternoon on Long Island.
 
Elon fell behind in the second inning and could not recover in the 18-2 loss.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Justin Mitrovich made quick work of the Sea Wolves in the first before Stony Brook scored on a fielder's choice in the second.
  • Stony Brook blew the game open in the fifth inning following a double and home run to lead by seven.
  • The Sea Wolves put together a ten-run inning in the bottom of the eighth to increase their lead.
  • Elon fought until the last out in the bottom of the ninth with Tank Yaghoubi and Joe Yovino bringing in a run each in the ninth inning.
 
NOTES AND STATS
  • Kenny Mallory Jr. extended his on-base streak to 27 games following a 1-2 afternoon with a walk.
  • Will Vergantino collected a single and made a number of impressive defensive plays at second base.
  • Lawson Wheeler had a pinch-hit single to right field and scored a run in the ninth inning in the loss.
  • Justin Szestowicki singled and scored in the ninth inning in a pinch-hit role.
  • Joe Yovino and Tank Yaghoubi finished with an RBI each.
