Elon Baseball Falls To Stony Brook Saturday

Stony Brook, N.Y.- The Elon Phoenix (11-19, 1-7 CAA) fell in game two of a three game weekend set with the Stony Brook Sea Wolves (14-15, 3-5 CAA) Saturday afternoon. This is Elon's third straight loss to Stony Brook in the series and second straight loss in CAA play, as the Phoenix fell 9-1.
 
Ben Sieracki tossed a solid outing on the mound against the Sea Wolves. Sieracki went five innings allowing just three runs. Both Kenny Mallory Jr. and Charlie Granatell finished with multi-hit games.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Ben Sieracki got the start for the Phoenix and got out of an early first inning jam. Sieracki forced a groundout back to the mound with two outs and the bases loaded.
  • Sieracki continued to get outs and finished the third inning allowing a single hit and forced the Sea Wolves into a double play.
  • Stony Brook put up three runs in the bottom of the fourth following four singles in the inning.
  • Elon put up their lone run of the game on a Will Vergantino sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in the fifth.
  • The Sea Wolves responded with a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth. Stony Brook put up two more runs and finished the ballgame with a 9-1 win.
 
NOTES AND STATS
  • Kenny Mallory Jr. continues to hit and get on base for the Phoenix. Mallory Jr. has reached base in 28 straight games, the fifth longest streak since 2019.
  • Charlie Granatell put together another multi-hit game, the 11th of the season for Granatell.
  • Ben Sieracki put together five innings on the mound and allowed just three runs.
  • Shane Paradine recorded his first hit of the series while Justin Szestowicki collected another hit on Long Island.

  • The Phoenix looks to close out the series with Stony Brook strong on Sunday. First pitch with the Sea Wolves will be at 12 pm.
