Stony Brook, N.Y.- Connor Offshack delivered a 2-for-4 performance with a home run as the Elon Phoenix (11-20, 1-8 CAA) fell in game three of the weekend set with the Stony Brook Sea Wolves (15-15, 4-5 CAA). Offshack's fifth home run of the season now leads the team and ties a season high in home runs for Offshack.
The Phoenix put together five extra-base hits with
Alex Duffey,
Charlie Granatell and
Justin Szestowicki all delivering doubles Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ryan Sprock got the start on the mound for the Phoenix and delivered a clean opening three innings as the score remained 0-0 through three frames.
- Elon broke through in the top of the fourth when Connor Offshack lined a fastball over the left field wall to give Elon the 1-0 lead.
- Sprock delivered another clean fourth inning to give the Phoenix a one run lead going into the fifth inning.
- Stony Brook grabbed the lead in the bottom of the fifth with four runs following a number of singles and an infield error.
- The Sea Wolves added another run in the bottom of the sixth to grab a four-run lead.
- Elon countered the run with two of their own courtesy of Alex Duffey. With two out, Duffey came to the plate with two runners on and laced an RBI double into the right-center field gap which scored both runners.
- Stony Brook added another run in the bottom of the seventh and the Phoenix could not mount a late comeback with Stony Brook taking game three, 6-3.
NOTES AND STATS
- Ryan Sprock got the start on the mound for the Phoenix and gave up just one earned run in 4.1 innings.
- Kolby Pascarelli held Stony Brook scoreless during his 1.2 innings of relief while striking out a pair of hitters.
- Connor Offshack finished 2-for-4 at the plate with both hits going for extra-bases. The home run was his fifth of the season which leads the team and ties his personal best in a season.
- Charlie Granatell finished with a multi-hit game and added a double to his season tally to reach 14.
- Alex Duffey collected RBIs number 19 and 20 on his seventh inning double.
- Justin Szestowicki added a double of his own in the ballgame, the fifth double of his Elon career.
- Tank Yaghoubi had a fine performance in the nine hole. Yaghoubi finished with a single and a run scored while reaching base three times.
