Rising Phoenix: This Week In Elon Athletics

ELON, N.C. The CAA Championship is on the horizon for women's golf as the team heads to Southport, North Carolina, this weekend to compete for the conference crown.

Each Monday, Rising Phoenix will preview the week ahead in Elon athletics. Here is a look at each Elon team competing this week.

Baseball
For its midweek matchup, Elon baseball will travel to Greenville, North Carolina, to face East Carolina for the second time this season. Currently ranked No. 12 in the country, the Pirates and the Phoenix are set for a 6 p.m. first pitch on Tuesday. Up next, the Phoenix begins a stretch of eight home games at Latham Park, beginning with a three-game series this weekend against the Hofstra Pride.

Men's Tennis
It's the last chance to catch Elon men's tennis in the regular season before the team vies for a CAA Championship in Williamsburg next weekend. The Phoenix has two matches this week and will head to Greensboro to face UNCG on Wednesday at 6 p.m. before its final regular season and home match Friday against Radford at 3 p.m. Not only will the Phoenix celebrate Senior Day and the last home match for Dylan Heap, Daniel Martin and Ben Zipay, it will also be head coach Michael Leonard's final home match after an exceptional 20-year career with the maroon and gold.

Track & Field
Elon's track & field team had another successful outing last weekend at the VertKlasse Meeting in High Point, earning seven top-10 finishes as a team. Jazlyn Jefferson recorded a personal best 39-feet-6.5 (12.05 meters) in the triple jump – good for seventh best in school history and becoming one of five CAA athletes this year to clear 12 meters. The Phoenix will travel to Durham to compete in the Duke Invitational this Thursday through Saturday.

Softball
It was a successful Alumni Weekend for Elon softball, as the team snapped Delaware's 13-game winning streak with a 5-2 victory last Friday. The Phoenix soared to victory behind early offense and strong pitching in McKenna McCard's complete game. This weekend, Elon heads to Towson, Maryland, to take on the Tigers in a three-game series.

Women's Golf
It's CAA Championship season for Elon women's golf after successful fall and spring campaigns. The Phoenix earned two first place finishes and finished top-five in six contests. The championship will be held in Southport, North Carolina, at the Reserve Club at St. James from Friday to Sunday. Last year, the Phoenix earned third place at the championships, and the team will look to not only replicate but further its success in Southport from last season.

Women's Tennis
The Elon women's tennis team went 1-1 in its contests last weekend, with an impressive 5-2 win over CAA opponent UNCW and a loss coming to No. 67 VCU. In the win over UNCW, Elon earned its five points off of singles victories to come from behind after going down in doubles. Elon has another CAA opponent on the horizon as the team travels to Williamsburg, Virginia to take on William & Mary Saturday at 1 p.m.

Lacrosse
After a 16-12 victory in Buies Creek over the Campbell Camels, Elon lacrosse is back in the win column and ready for more CAA play coming up. This win marked Elon's first over Campbell as a CAA opponent but its sixth in a row against the Camels dating back to 2017. Sammy Fisher and Anna Hackett have continued to be outstanding on offensive, scoring five and four goals against the Camels, respectively. Up next, the Phoenix welcome William & Mary to Rudd Field on Sunday at noon.
