ELON, N.C. – The Elon University softball team and head coach
Kathy Bocock announced the addition of former Phoenix
Carley Davis to the team's staff as the squad's newest assistant coach on Wednesday, June 26. In addition, Bocock also announced the elevation of volunteer assistant coach Sophia Devesa to full-time assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.
"We are very excited to have Carley remain a member of our Elon softball family," said Bocock. "She is someone that understands and knows the game and I am excited to see her start her coaching career with us. We know she will bring a valuable presence to our team as a former player and will be a great fit for our coaching staff and the direction we are going. She is also very relatable to our players and recruits."
Davis concluded her career with the Phoenix this past spring, spending most of her time as a starter behind the plate. She appeared in 197 career games with 194 starts for the maroon and gold and was a two-time All-CAA Second Team selection. A native of Bridgewater, Va., Davis finished her career as Elon's all-time Division I leader in runners caught stealing with 37. This past season, Davis hit a career-best .312 with four homers and 24 RBI.
Devesa begins her second season with the Phoenix after spending time as a volunteer coach with the team in 2024. In her one season with the Phoenix, Devesa was a part of a staff that helped mentor the Phoenix batters to hit .270 last season, Elon's highest batting average since 2018. The Phoenix's offense was also second in the CAA in runs scored with 252 while its 34 home runs were a league best. She also assisted in other aspects of the team defensively and with scouting.
"I'm so happy to have Sophia continue to work with us while being promoted into this new role," said Bocock. "She brings a lot of energy to our team and will continue to help elevate the mindset of our program. She learned a lot last year as a volunteer assistant coach and continues to be a sponge mentally, taking in all the information around her to help our team. I am so grateful for her continued loyalty to the Elon softball program following her sister's career with us and looking forward to her expanding her role in recruiting and scouting."
