Elon Crowns Princess Day With Double-Digit Win Over Hofstra

ELON, N.C. —  The Elon women's basketball team (10-6, 4-1 CAA) earned their third consecutive home victory on Princess Day, delivering a dominant 70-51 win over Hofstra (8-8, 3-2).

THE RUNDOWN
  • The teams exchanged baskets throughout the first quarter, with Hofstra holding a 13-11 lead at the 2:22 mark. Elon closed the quarter strong with a second-chance layup by Raven Preston and two free throws from Maraja Pass to take a 15-13 advantage after the opening 10 minutes.
  • Elon extended its lead to 17-13 to open the second quarter, but Hofstra responded with a 6-3 run to narrow the gap to 20-19. A three-pointer from Laila Anderson extended Elon's lead to four before the teams traded baskets. With the Phoenix up 30-25, the Pride connected on back-to-back shots to pull within one at 30-29 with 41 seconds remaining. However, a three-pointer from Raven Preston gave Elon a 33-29 advantage heading into halftime.
  • Back-to-back buckets in the paint from Elon pushed their lead to 37-29, but Hofstra answered with a 6-0 run to trim the margin to 39-37. The teams traded scores before the Phoenix surged on a 14-3 run, building their first double-digit lead at 53-41 heading into the fourth quarter.
  • Elon extended their lead to 17 points at 60-43 with 6:41 left in the game following three consecutive baskets. The Phoenix further widened the gap to 64-45. Although Hofstra narrowed the deficit to 15, a 6-2 closing run by Elon secured a commanding 70-51 victory over the Pride.

  • Elon returned the same starting lineup with Iycez Adams, Laila Anderson, Ava Leroux, Maraja Pass, and Raven Preston.
  • Raven Preston recorded her fifth double-double of the season, leading the team with 16 points, 10 rebounds, four steals, and matching her career-high with two blocks.
  • Jayda Angel contributed 14 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals off the bench.
  • Iycez Adams reached double figures for the eighth time this season, scoring 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field.
  • Adams also recorded a team-high four blocks, surpassing 100 career blocks in the process.
  • Maraja Pass eclipsed double figures for the first time this season, scoring 10 points.
  • This marked the fourth game this season in which the Phoenix had four players in double figures.
  • Elon held Hofstra to their lowest rebound total of the season, outrebounding the Pride 38-24.
  • The Phoenix outperformed Hofstra in assists (16-9), blocks (7-0), steals (12-7), and points in the paint (36-24).
  • Elon matched its season-high field goal percentage at 50% (27-for-54) and shot a season-best 54.5% from three-point range.
  • The 19-point victory was Elon's largest win over a Division I opponent since defeating Gardner-Webb 90-69 on Nov. 11, 2023, and the largest CAA victory since an 85-61 win over William & Mary on Mar. 3, 2022.
  • Elon's seventh home win of the season marks the most home victories since going 10-4 at home in 2021-22.
  • The Phoenix's 4-1 start in CAA play is their best since starting 5-1 during the 2016-17 season.
