Elon Falls In CAA Opener At North Carolina A&T

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Elon University women's basketball team (6-6) dropped its CAA opener to North Carolina A&T (5-7) on Friday night.

THE RUNDOWN
  • The teams exchanged baskets to start the first quarter before North Carolina A&T used a 6-0 run to lead 8-2 at the 3:14 mark. Elon responded with a 6-0 run of their own, ending the quarter tied at 8-8.
  • The Aggies struck first in the second quarter, taking a 12-8 lead. A three-pointer from Raven Preston gave Elon its first lead at 13-12. North Carolina A&T quickly reclaimed the advantage, pulling ahead 18-13. Elon answered with consecutive baskets to cut the deficit to one at 18-17. The Aggies pushed back to lead 22-17, but two late Phoenix buckets made it a 22-21 game at halftime.
  • The third quarter opened with back-and-forth play, but with the score tied 26-26, North Carolina A&T ignited a 13-2 run to take a 39-28 lead with 5:33 remaining. Elon responded by closing the quarter on a 6-2 run, narrowing the gap to 41-34 heading into the final frame.
  • North Carolina A&T controlled the fourth quarter, outscoring Elon 16-6 to seal a 57-40 win.
NOTES
  • Elon returned the same starters in Iycez Adams, Laila Anderson, Hannah Dereje, Maraja Pass, and Raven Preston.
  • Pass led the team with nine points, while Adams, Jayda Angel, and Preston each contributed six.
  • Preston paced the Phoenix with 10 rebounds, marking her fifth game of the season with double-digit boards.
  • Angel recorded a team-high three steals, while Anderson, Ava Leroux, and Pass each added two assists.
