ELON – The Elon women's golf team will play its final tournament of the 2025 fall season at the Edisto Island Invitational on Sunday through Tuesday. The three-day tournament, hosted by College of Charleston, will be played at The Plantation Course in Edisto Beach, South Carolina.
Play was originally formatted for 36 holes Monday and 18 holes Tuesday, but due to the expectation of inclement weather in Edisto, tournament officials shifted to a single 18-hole round each day, Sunday through Tuesday. SENIOR LEADERSHIP
Seniors
Ashley Lafontaine and
Annie Wu top the Elon lineup once again for the Edisto Island Invitational. Lafontaine leads the Phoenix with a 73.90 strokes per round average through four events and 11 rounds played this fall and has finished among the top eight individually in three of those tournaments. Wu earned her second straight top-20 finish with a tie for 19th at the Terrier Intercollegiate – she also tied for eighth at the Tot Hill Farm Invitational – and has averaged 76.27 shots per round in all 11 possible rounds played for the Phoenix this fall. Wu placed fifth at the 2023 Edisto Island Invitational with a 2-over 212 (70-71-71) and helped Elon take fifth place overall. The then-sophomore earned a spot on the All-CAA second team that season.
HOME TURF DEFENDED
The Phoenix started the 2025-26 season with a bang by winning a share of the title at their home tournament, the Elon Invitational. Three Phoenix finished among the top 10 individually and Elon carded a 2-over-par 286 in the final round to finish tied atop the leaderboard with James Madison at 4-over (856) after 54 holes of play. It was Elon's first win at its home tournament since 2022. Sophomore
Emma Hansen – who is second on the team with a 75.72 strokes per round average this fall – led the way by tying for fourth individually with a 1-under 212; she was recognized as the CAA Co-Golfer of the Week following the performance.
AROUND THE WORLD
Seven of the eight golfers on Elon's roster are originally from outside of the United States, with sophomore
Garland Gould (Raleigh) being the lone American on the squad. The seven international golfers on the roster include four Canadians –
Lilli Downer (Toronto, Ontario), Hansen (Burlington, Ontario), Lafontaine (Ottawa, Ontario) and
Kelly Zhao (Richmond Hill, Ontario) – one German (
Lara Rieke; Düsseldorf, Germany), one New Zealander (
Sakura Kawakami; Rotorua, New Zealand) and one Taiwanese (Wu; Taichung, Taiwan).
GUIDING HANDS
Chris Dockrill – a 2014 Elon Sports Hall of Fame inductee and All-American for the Phoenix men's golf program – is in his 25th season at the helm of the Elon women's golf program and will be joined by first-year assistant coach
LoraLie Cowart, who joined the Phoenix this past offseason following a decorated collegiate career at both Georgia and Georgia Southern.
