ELON – The Elon women's basketball team closed its nonconference slate in emphatic fashion by setting a program record for points scored in a 111-50 win over N.C. Wesleyan at Schar Center on Tuesday.
Five Phoenix players scored in double figures, the most in a single game this season, highlighted by
Tamia Watkins and
LaNae' Corbett, who scored 23 and 20 points, respectively.
THE RUNDOWN
- Elon set the tone early and never trailed, converting multiple second-chance opportunities and fast-break points to build a 28-13 advantage over NC Wesleyan by the end of the first quarter.
- The Phoenix came out hot in the second quarter, going on a 17-0 run to pull ahead 45-13 with 5:36 remaining in the half. N.C. Wesleyan worked to close the gap, but Elon led 55-26 at the break.
- Elon dominated the second half, turning turnovers into points and finishing strong pulling away with a 111-50 victory over N.C. Wesleyan.
NOTES
- The Phoenix's 111 points broke the former program record of 106 scored against Coker on Nov. 27, 2017.
- Tamia Watkins recorded Elon's first double-double of the season with 23 points and 10 rebounds. She shot 64.3% (9-for-14) from the field, while setting a career-high in blocks (2) and matched her season-high in steals (3).
- LaNae' Corbett scored her first 20-point performance of the season, shooting 80% (8-for-10) from the field.
- Ashlee Shaw set new career-highs in points with 18 and a team-high five steals, while Laila Anderson reached a season-high 12 points going 50% (2-for-4) from deep.
- Ashanti Fox also reached double-figures adding 12 points, while leading the team with six assists, a season-high.
- Elon set a season-high in offensive rebounds with 23 while holding NC Wesleyan to the least total rebounds allowed this season.
- Elon's 34 forced turnovers are the most forced this season.
- Elon's 61-point margin of victory matches its largest since the Phoenix beat Winthrop 98-37 on Nov. 10, 2017.
- The Phoenix returned the same starters: LaNae Corbett, Quinzia Fulmore, Maraja Pass, Ashlee Shaw, and Tyana Walker.
