Phoenix’s Defensive Effort Generates 29 Turnovers, Pirates Prevail

GREENVILLE – The Elon University women's basketball team forced a season-high 29 turnovers in a strong defensive performance but ultimately fell 64–53 at East Carolina.
 
LaNae' Corbett led the team in scoring, matching her season-high with 14 points on 50% shooting (5-for-10), while Quinzia Fulmore added a season-high 10 rebounds.

Elon falls to 3–5, while East Carolina improves to 5–5.

THE RUNDOWN
  • The teams were knotted at 3–3 with 6:36 remaining in the opening quarter, each showing strong defensive pressure. The squads continued to trade baskets, with Ashanti Fox leading the way with seven points as Elon took a 10–9 lead after one.
  • ECU pulled ahead 14–13, followed by a 4:29 stretch with no field goals from either team, only free throws. Samira Khalil ended the drought as Elon trailed 17–16 with 2:47 remaining. The Pirates closed the quarter on a 10–3 run to take a 27–19 lead into halftime.
  • Back-and-forth scoring continued, with ECU maintaining a 37–29 lead with 5:04 remaining in the third quarter. Elon cut the deficit to five at 37–32, but the Pirates pulled ahead 43–35 to end the quarter.
  • The Pirates went on a 13–4 run to build a double-digit lead at 56–39, a margin they would carry the rest of the way. Elon fought to get back, but ultimately fell 64–53.
NOTES
  • LaNae' Corbett reached double figures for the fifth time this season with 14 points while adding four rebounds.
  • Ashanti Fox led the bench scorers, reaching double figures for the second time this season and matching her season-high with 13 points. Fox went 6-for-14 from the field and contributed a team-high six assists, also a season-high.
  • Quinzia Fulmore paced the Phoenix for the third time this season with 10 rebounds, recording her first game in double-figure boards.
  • Four Phoenix players added two steals each en route to a season-high 29 forced turnovers.
  • For the fifth time this season, Elon's defense held its opponent to under 25% shooting, with East Carolina going 15.8% (3-for-19) from deep.
  • Kamryn Doty made her first start of the season alongside LaNae' Corbett, Quinzia Fulmore, Maraja Pass, and Tyana Walker.
