RICHMOND, Va. (February 19, 2025) – Elon senior offensive lineman
Kevin Burkett was selected as the 2024 CAA Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year by a vote of the conference's athletics directors.
Burkett is the third Elon student-athlete to receive the award, joining Matt Foster in 2019 and Davis Cheek in 2020.
Burkett has compiled a 3.34 grade point average while working on his bachelor's degree in engineering with a minor in mathematics. He has been a member of the CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll in six semesters and was chosen to the CSC Academic All-District team in 2022.
A two-time Dean's List member, Burkett made a pair of presentations at the Elon University Spring Undergraduate Research Forum. One presentation was on the effects that road pavement has on water quality and the other involved the impacts of accessible food trays for visually impaired students.
On the field, Burkett started 44 of his 45 career games for the Phoenix, including every contest over his final three years. A team captain, he showed his versatility by making starts at tackle, guard and center throughout his career. In 2024, Burkett made the All-CAA first team and was ranked as the top pass protecting offensive lineman in FCS football by Pro Football Focus.
During his time at Elon, Burkett has studied abroad in Costa Rica with the football team, developed his leadership skills through the Phoenix Leadership Academy and participated in numerous community service projects.
Nominees for the CAA Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year must have senior standing academically with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0. In honor of his achievement, Burkett will receive a $1,000 scholarship to be used for future educational expenses. He plans to pursue a master's degree in engineering.
