Elon Falls At Northeastern

BOSTON, MASS. — The Elon women's basketball team (14-13, 8-8 CAA) fell at Northeastern (3-23, 2-16 CAA) on Thursday evening.

THE RUNDOWN
  • Elon overcame an early deficit, trailing 4-0 before igniting a 13-2 run to take a 13-6 lead with 3:21 left in the first quarter. Despite Northeastern narrowing the gap, a second chance layup from Hannah Dereje secured a 16-10 Phoenix lead after the opening 10 minutes.
  • The teams traded baskets in the second quarter, but after Elon built an eight-point cushion at 22-14, Northeastern responded with a 6-0 run to cut the lead to two. However, Kierra Morrow drained a three-pointer to halt the Huskies' momentum, and a layup from Ruby Willard sent Elon into halftime with a 27-20 advantage.
  • The teams battled throughout the third quarter, with Elon maintaining an eight-point lead at 34-26 with 2:29 remaining. A three-point play from Northeastern trimmed the deficit, but a pullup from Iycez Adams helped the Phoenix stay in front, 36-29.
  • Both teams traded three-pointers to start the final quarter before Northeastern put together an 8-2 run, tying the game at 41-41. A driving layup from Jayda Angel briefly put Elon back on top at 43-41 but the Huskies responded with a 5-0 run, taking a 46-43 lead with 2:05 remaining. The Phoenix strugged to convert on offense, and a late steal from Northeastern secured a 49-43 victory over Elon.
NOTES
  • Elon maintained its starting lineup of Iycez Adams, Laila Anderson, Ava Leroux, Maraja Pass, and Raven Preston.
  • Leroux led the team in scoring with seven points, followed by Adams with six.
  • Adams paced the Phoenix on the boards with nine rebounds and recorded a team-high four steals.
  • Adams and Preston each tallied two blocks, while Pass led with four assists.
  • The Phoenix held the edge over Northeastern in steals (11-7), blocks (5-1) and offensive rebounds (14-12).

  • The maroon and gold closes its regular season Saturday for a 2 p.m. with a road contest against Monmouth.
