No. 2 Elon Men's Tennis Faces No. 3 Monmouth Saturday in CAA Tournament

Elon, N.C. – The Elon University men's tennis team (10-7) will face Monmouth in the CAA semifinals Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center. The Phoenix earned a first-round bye, while the Hawks advanced with a win against Drexel.

ABOUT THE PHOENIX

The Phoenix concluded the regular season with a 10-7 record, winning 7 of their last 8 matches. The team held a 7-2 home record and boasted a perfect 3-0 record against conference opponents. Two freshmen debuted this season, Charles Pilet and Rafael Ymer, as well as Luke Forester. Also on the team are sophomores Jack Curtis and Alonso Roca, as well as juniors Oskar Antinheimo and Veljko Krstic. The lone senior for the team is Juan Senagriz.

Throughout the season, the team has found strength in both singles and doubles, earning wins across the board.

At No. 1 doubles, Neljko Krstic and Oskar Antinheimo ended the season with a 7-5 record. Jack Curtis and Rafael Ymer held a 9-4 record at the No. 2 spot, finishing the season with a five-match winning streak.

Rafael Ymer joined the team with explosive play, earning an 11-3 record at the No. 2 spot in singles. He concluded regular-season play with a five-match win streak. 

The team also has earned multiple CAA Player of the Week nominations. Krstic, Sengariz, and Ymer have all received CAA Player of the Week selections. Veljko Krstic and Oskar Antinheimo secured a Doubles team of the Week nomination as well. 

CAA TOURNAMENT HISTORY
  • This year marks the seventh time Elon has hosted the tournament. 
  • Elon is 9-9 all-time in its nine appearances at the CAA Tournament. 
  • Seven of Elon's nine tournament losses have come in the semifinal round. 
  • The Phoenix reached its only CAA championship match when it hosted the event in 2022.  
Up next: The winner of the match will advance to the championship match on Sunday at 2 p.m. to face the winner of UNCW vs Delaware.
