RICHMOND, Va. – The Elon University softball team had six members of its squad recognized on the 2025 All-CAA Softball postseason awards as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon, May 6.
Â
The Phoenix had two members of the program, senior
Kaitlyn Wells and sophomore
Greta Hessenthaler, receive First Team All-CAA laurels while three other members –
Allee Seering,
Chloe Hatzopoulos and
McKenna McCard – earn spots on the Second Team. First-year
Kayla Wilson rounded out the Elon honorees with her spot on the CAA All-Rookie Team.
Â
Wells has put together a historic season at the plate during her 2025 campaign. The Roswell, Ga., native broke the program's single-season school record in RBI (50) and is currently tied for the most home runs in school history in a single year (15). Wells leads the Phoenix in several categories including batting average (.416), slugging percentage (.792), runs scored (39), hits (62) and total bases (118). She ranks in the top five of the CAA in batting average, slugging percentage, OPS (1.271), hits, RBI and home runs.
Â
Hessenthaler is second to Wells on the team in batting average (.362) while her .483 on-base percentage is currently fifth in the CAA. The Liberty, N.C., native is fourth in the CAA in walks (28) while accounting for 50 hits, a team-best two triples with 18 RBI. During the year, Hessenthaler reached base in 34 straight games, at one point the longest active streak in the nation.
Â
Seering receives her second All-CAA team honor in her senior season. The Waxhaw, N.C., native is batting .344 on the season and is second to Wells on the team with 54 hits. She has also accounted for six doubles, three home runs and 27 RBI. Seering ranks in the top-10 of the CAA in hits and stolen bases, as her 16 swiped bags lead the Phoenix. She has also produced 16 multi-hit games this season.
Â
After missing last season due to injury, Hatzopoulos receives All-CAA honors for the first time amid a successful 2025 campaign. The Huntersville, N.C., native is in the top-10 of the league in slugging percentage (.588), runs scored (38) and home runs (10). She is also hitting a career-best .316 on the year with 33 RBI for the maroon and gold. With her 10 home runs this season, she joins Carleigh Nester '14 as the only players in school history with two double-digit home run seasons in their careers.
Â
McCard has been the Phoenix's ace in the circle most of the season, leading the team in ERA (1.93), opposing batting average (.230), innings pitched (94.1), strikeouts (80), and wins (12). The Ashburn, Ga., native is third in the CAA in ERA and sixth in opposing batting average while also sitting in the top-10 of the league in strikeouts. McCard set a career-high with 15 strikeouts at North Carolina A&T on April 18, the most strikeouts for a pitcher in the CAA this season at the time.
Â
Wilson has been valuable as a hitter for the Phoenix this season, mostly as a pinch hitter. The Graham, N.C., native is batting .349 with three doubles and a triple along with seven RBI in her 43 at bats. She has also posted a slugging percentage of .465. Wilson's standout moment this season came when she delivered an RBI single at Delaware on March 29, driving in the go-ahead and eventual game-winning run in Elon's 5-4 win over the Blue Hens.
Elon begins play at the 2025 CAA Softball Championships this Thursday, May 8, as the second-seeded Phoenix faces the winner between No. 3 seed Charleston and No. 6 seed Hofstra at 2:30 p.m. at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium at Campbell University.
