ELON – Three Phoenix finished among the top 10 individually as the Elon women's golf team won a share of the Elon Invitational title on Tuesday afternoon at Alamance Country Club. The Phoenix carded a 2-over-par 286 in the third round to finish tied atop the leaderboard with James Madison at 4-over (856) after 54 holes of play.
It's Elon's first win at its home tournament since 2022. Sophomore
Emma Hansen shot a 2-under 69 in the final round to jump eight spots and finish in a team-best tie for fourth place (-1, 212) while
Ashley Lafontaine (E, 213) and
Lilli Downer (+2, 215) – who was playing in her first collegiate tournament – tied for sixth and ninth, respectively.
The Phoenix nearly saw its title changes slip away as all five golfers in the lineup bogeyed the par 4 18th hole. Hansen – who tallied with career bests with her fourth-place finish and 54-hole score of 212 – was dynamite through the first 17 holes, playing bogey free with birdies on holes 9, 10 and 17. Lafontaine and Downer both sunk three birdies apiece as well.
Radford (+12), Appalachian State (+12) and Longwood (+16) rounded out the top five on the team leaderboard. Radford's Mckenzie Weddle (-3) won individual medalist honors.
