ONE TOURNAMENT, ONE WIN
The Phoenix started the 2025-26 season with a bang by winning a share of the title at their home tournament, the Elon Invitational, this past week. Three Phoenix finished among the top 10 individually and Elon carded a 2-over-par 286 in the final round to finish tied atop the leaderboard with James Madison at 4-over (856) after 54 holes of play. It was Elon's first win at its home tournament since 2022.
CAA GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Sophomore
Emma Hansen earned her first career weekly conference award Wednesday when she was tabbed Coastal Athletic Association Co-Golfer of the Week. Hansen led Elon with a 1-under 212 (70-73-69) at the Elon Invitational and tied for fourth place individually. Her 54-hole 212, 18-hole 69 in the third round and T4th finish were all career bests for the second-year Phoenix.
FAMILIAR GROUND
Elon played in Boston College's Red Bandanna Intercollegiate at Blue Hill CC in consecutive years in 2022-23, finishing runner-up in 2022 – the tournament was then named the Boston College Intercollegiate – and third in 2023. Senior
Ashley Lafontaine was in the Elon lineup both years, placing 18th (231, +15) and tied for eighth (226, +10) in 2022 and 2023, respectively. Fellow senior
Annie Wu was also in the lineup in 2023, tying for 37th (236, +20).
STRAIGHT TO WORK
Freshman
Lilli Downer was an instant impact in her collegiate debut at the Elon Invitational, tying for ninth individually with a 2-over 215 (71-73-71). The rookie is back in the Elon lineup as the No. 3 golfer and will look to build upon the strong start to her first year as a Phoenix.
AROUND THE WORLD
Seven of the eight golfers on Elon's roster are originally from outside of the United States, with sophomore
Garland Gould (Raleigh) being the lone American on the squad. The seven international golfers on the roster include four Canadians – Downer (Toronto, Ontario),
Emma Hansen (Burlington, Ontario), Lafontaine (Ottawa, Ontario) and
Kelly Zhao (Richmond Hill, Ontario) – one German (Rieke; Düsseldorf, Germany), one New Zealander (
Sakura Kawakami; Rotorua, New Zealand) and one Taiwanese (Wu; Taichung, Taiwan).
GUIDING HANDS
Chris Dockrill – a 2014 Elon Sports Hall of Fame inductee and All-American for the Phoenix men's golf program – enters his 25th season at the helm of the Elon women's golf program and will be joined by first-year assistant coach
LoraLie Cowart, who joined the Phoenix this past offseason following a decorated collegiate career at both Georgia and Georgia Southern.
KEEP IT ROLLING
The Phoenix will play its third tournament in as many weeks to start the fall season with the Tot Hill Farm Invitational on Sept. 29-30. The two-day, 54-hole tournament is hosted by College of Charleston at Tot Hill Farm Golf Club in Asheboro.
