CANTON, Mass. – The Elon women's golf team shot an 18-over-par 306 in Tuesday's final round to secure a fourth-place finish at the Red Bandanna Invitational. The Phoenix was paced by sophomore
Kelly Zhao, who climbed two spots into sixth place individually with a third-round 1-over 73.
Elon withstood another challenging day at Blue Hill Country Club, maintaining its fourth-place position on the way to finishing 47-over (310-295-306 – 911). Host Boston College (+22) won the tournament title while Dartmouth (+23), Columbia (+31) and Georgia State (+59) rounded out the top five.
Zhao, who entered the day tied for eighth individually, got off to a rocky start with bogeys on four of her first five holes to drop back to 9-over. She turned it around, however, shooting 3-under across holes 8-9 with a birdie and eagle. Zhao then shot even par on the back nine – she bogeyed 15 and birdied 16 – to round out a 6-over 222 (76-73-73) for the tournament.
Ashley Lafontaine (+12) finished tied for 17th after carding a 4-over 76 on Tuesday.
Emma Hansen (+18) and
Annie Wu (+23) tied for 31st and 44th, respectively to round out the Phoenix's scorers. Elon played shorthanded in the third round as freshman
Lilli Downer was scratched from the lineup prior to teeing off due to injury.
