ASHEBORO – Ashley Lafontaine and
Annie Wu earned top-10 individual finishes and led the Elon women's golf team to an eighth-place finish at the Tot Hill Farm Invitational on Monday. The Phoenix ended the weather-shortened, 36-hole tournament at 40-over-par (302-314 – 616).
Host College of Charleston (+9) won the two-day tournament by five strokes, outpacing Old Dominion (+14), Coastal Carolina (+23), Wofford (+26) and East Carolina (+31). The Chanticleers' Carla Bourdeaux (-3) was individual medalist.
Elon's senior duo of Lafontaine and Wu ended the first 18 holes in a tie for third place following a pair of 1-under 71s in the opening round. Both golfers carded a pair of birdies apiece in the second round but ultimately fell back on the leaderboard; Lafontaine shot a 3-over 147 (71-76) and Wu shot 4-over 148 (71-77) to tie for sixth and eighth, respectively. Wu, who started her round on hole 11, shot 6-over through her first six holes of the second round but rebounded with a 1-under front nine that included birdies on holes 2 and 5.
Sophomore
Emma Hansen (+15, 159) was Elon's next best finisher in a tie for 47th while freshman
Lilli Downer took 55th at 20-over (164).
