CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Elon women's basketball team fell 87-64 to Charleston on Sunday afternoon at TD Arena.
Laila Anderson led the Phoenix with her first 20-point outing of the season, finishing with 21 points. She went 7-for-15 from the field, including 4-for-6 from three-point range, and added four rebounds and a career-high two blocks.
Elon falls to 7-10 overall, and 2-3 in CAA play with the road loss, while Charleston improves to 14-3 and 6-0 in the conference, remaining undefeated at home.
THE RUNDOWN
- Elon fell behind 9–2 early in the first quarter, but back-to-back scores from Laila Anderson cut the deficit to five at 12-7 with 6:24 remaining. The teams traded baskets down the stretch, and Elon closed the quarter on a 7-2 run to trail 21-16 at the end of one.
- Charleston opened the second quarter on a 15-5 run to extend its lead to 36-21 midway through the frame. Elon worked to slow the momentum, but the Cougars carried a 53-31 advantage into the break.
- The Cougars extended their lead to 62-33 with a 9-2 run to start the second half, with the teams trading baskets to close the quarter as Elon trailed 75-43.
- Elon was unable to overcome the deficit, with Charleston sealing an 87-64 win.
