ELON – The Elon men's basketball team fell 72-59 to Towson on Thursday night at Schar Center in Coastal Athletic Association play.
Â
Towson (12-9, 4-4 CAA) used a strong first-half stretch to take control and carried a 29-22 advantage into the break. Elon (12-8, 4-3) battled to find offensive rhythm early, shooting 30.4% in the opening 20 minutes, before improving to 46.4% in the second half.
Â
The Phoenix showed signs of momentum coming out of halftime, trimming the deficit to five after a
Kacper Klaczek layup at the 19:20 mark. An 8-0 run – fueled by a four-point play by
Isaac Harrell, who finished with 12 points and three 3-pointers – a little more than midway through the second half brought Elon within four points, trailing 52-48, but the Tigers answered quickly with an 8-0 run of their own and maintained separation the rest of the way.
Â
Towson won the rebounding battle 43-31 and grabbed 21 offensive boards, turning them into 24 second-chance points.
Â
Elon finished the night with a season-low 39.2% field-goal clip and went 8-for-24 from beyond the arc, while Towson knocked down nine 3-pointers and shot 81% at the line (13 of 16).
Â
Chandler Cuthrell led Elon with 17 points and seven rebounds, while
Bryson Cokley added 10 points off the bench to round out the Phoenix's three double-figure scorers.
