Elon Dominates Hampton

Four Phoenix Score Double Figures In 79-53 Road Win

HAMPTON, Va. – The Elon women's basketball team had four players score in double figures en route to a dominant 79-53 victory at Hampton on Monday afternoon.
 
Laila Anderson led the Phoenix with a season-high 22 points, marking her fourth straight game in double figures. She shot 8-for-13 from the field and was perfect from the free-throw line for the second consecutive game. Tamia Watkins recorded her second double-double of the season with 13 points and a season-high 15 rebounds, including 11 on the offensive glass.
 
Elon improved to 9-10 overall and 4-3 in CAA play with its second straight conference victory. Hampton fell to 8-11 overall and 2-5 in league action.

THE RUNDOWN
  • After a back-and-forth start, Elon used a 9-2 run to take a 15-7 lead and closed the first quarter ahead 18-9.
  • The Phoenix extended the momentum in the second quarter with a 13-2 run to build a 31-11 advantage. Hampton cut the deficit to 15, but Elon closed the half strong to lead 38-18 at the break.
  • Elon pushed the lead to 26 midway through the third quarter and maintained control, ending the period ahead 57-33.
  • The Phoenix opened the fourth quarter on a 10-0 run to go up 67-33 and cruised to the 79-53 victory.
NOTES
  • Laila Anderson led the team in scoring for the second time this season with a season-high 22 points and added a season-best five steals.
  • Tamia Watkins notched her second double-double of the season with 15 boards and 13 points, with 11 offensive boards.
  • Hampton's 18 first-half points were the fewest allowed by Elon this season.
  • Elon's 26-point margin of victory is the largest in a CAA game since the Phoenix defeated College of Charleston 90-41 on Jan. 10, 2020.
  • LaNae' Corbett scored 15 points for her 12th double-figure game of the season and added three steals.
  • Quinzia Fulmore also chipped in double figures with 10 points, going 5-for-8 from the field.
  • Maraja Pass dished out a season-high six assists to lead the team.
  • Elon led the offensive glass for the 13th time this season, outrebounding the Pirates 21-14 on the offensive boards.
  • Tamia Watkins returned to the Phoenix starting lineup alongside Laila Anderson, LaNae Corbett, Maraja Pass, and Tyana Walker
