COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Elon women's tennis team racked up five victories Thursday in the qualifying singles draw to open its stay at ITA Carolina Regionals. South Carolina is hosting the tournament at the Carolina Tennis Center.

Four Phoenix won opening-round matches in the qualifying draw to advance to the final round. Iga Piotrowska did not drop a game in a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Mathilde Bris from Queens, while Mariana Reding, Lisa Dierick and Alexandria Warsing all added impressive straight-set victories of their own.

Alexis Nyborg also picked up a win in the consolation draw after narrowly dropping a three-set decision in the opening round against Wake Forest's Lillian Santos. Nyborg rebounded by only dropping two games in a 6-0, 6-2 triumph over Paula Dougherty from Charleston.

Elon will have two players compete in the main singles draw. Simone Bergeron will begin her tournament Friday against NC State's Georgia Cranford at approximately 10:30 a.m. with Cornelia Kack set to face Charlotte's Elizabeth Ivanov at approximately 11:30 a.m.

The Phoenix will also see its four doubles team begin the main draw Friday. Elon's first doubles match will begin at approximately 2:30 p.m.
