ELON – Elon goalkeeper
Anica Carpenter was chosen as the CAA Defensive Player of the Week on Monday as the conference unveiled its weekly women's soccer awards.
Carpenter made a season-high five saves to anchor a shutout in Elon's 2-0 victory against William & Mary at Rudd Field. Her five saves were the most by any of the CAA goalkeepers that kept a clean sheet Sunday.
It was the junior's second solo shutout of the campaign and the fifth she has been a part of having shared three clean sheets with
Naomi Person. It was Carpenter's first start since Sept. 3 at VMI when she also recorded a shutout.
The weekly award is the first of Carpenter's career as she is the first Phoenix to earn CAA Defensive Player of the Week this season. She becomes the fourth Phoenix goalkeeper to earn the weekly honor since Elon became a CAA member, joining McKenna Dalfonso (four times),
Katie Bisgrove, (three times) and Valentina Estrada.
The Phoenix continues CAA play Sunday against Hampton on Senior Day. The match at Rudd Field is scheduled for 1 p.m.
