ESTERO, Fla. – The Elon men's golf team shot a 9-under-par 279 in Tuesday's final round to finish sixth at the West Bay Collegiate Invitational at West Bay Club.
The Phoenix completed the tournament at 18-under-par 846 (274-293-279), with all five members of its lineup shooting even par or better in the final round. Elon shared the first-round lead with Appalachian State after opening with a 14-under-par 274 on Monday.
Jack Wieler was Elon's top individual finisher, tying for 11th at 6-under-par 210.
Dylan Lewis led the Phoenix on Tuesday with a bogey-free, 4-under-par 68, while
William Carr added a 3-under-par 69 and Wieler posted a 2-under-par 70.
ROUND 3 HIGHLIGHTS
- Wieler finished tied for 11th at 6-under-par 210 (67-73-70). His final-round 70 featured five birdies, including consecutive birdies on Nos. 11-12 and Nos. 1-2. Starting on No. 5, Wieler played his final four holes in 2-under to secure his second under-par round of the tournament.
- Lewis finished tied for 19th at 5-under-par 211 (72-71-68), improving his score in each round. Beginning on No. 6, Lewis birdied two of his first four holes on Nos. 8 and 9 before adding birdies on Nos. 15 and 1. He finished with four birdies and 14 pars in his bogey-free round.
- Carr tied for 27th at 3-under-par 213 (71-73-69). He birdied all four par-5 holes Tuesday and added a fifth birdie on the par-4 13th. After starting on No. 7, Carr closed his round with a birdie on the par-5 sixth to finish with his lowest score of the tournament.
- Landon Durham eagled his final hole, the par-5 sixth, to complete an even-par 72 and finish tied for 37th at 1-under-par 215 (67-76-72). Durham also recorded five birdies Tuesday, including consecutive birdies on Nos. 13-14.
- Drew Yeagley shot an even-par 72 to finish tied for 59th at 3-over-par 219 (69-78-72). Yeagley made four birdies in a five-hole stretch on Nos. 2-6, improving by six strokes on his second-round score.
- Competing as an individual, Bence Somogyi finished tied for 37th at 1-under-par 215 (72-71-72). Somogyi played his final 14 holes without a bogey Tuesday, recording birdies on Nos. 2, 5 and 13 to close with an even-par 72.
