ESTERO, Fla. – The Elon men's golf team sits in sixth place at 9-under-par 567 following the opening two rounds of the West Bay Collegiate Invitational on Monday at West Bay Club.
 
Led by matching 5-under-par 67s from Jack Wieler and Landon Durham, the Phoenix shot a 14-under-par 274 to share the first-round lead with Appalachian State. Four members of Elon's lineup finished under par over the opening 18 holes at the par-72, 6,939-yard course. Elon followed with a second-round 293 to finish the day at 9-under.
 
Elon enters Tuesday's final round nine shots behind co-leaders FGCU and Appalachian State, both at 18-under-par. Lipscomb is third at 17-under, followed by ULM at 12-under and Stetson at 10-under, one stroke ahead of the Phoenix.
 
ROUNDS 1-2 HIGHLIGHTS

• Wieler leads Elon in a tie for ninth at 4-under-par 140 (67-73), five shots behind individual leader Uy Doan of Stetson. Wieler began the tournament with consecutive birdies on Nos. 1 and 2 and played his opening nine holes in a bogey-free 3-under-par 33. He added a birdie on No. 15 and an eagle on the par-5 17th to complete his opening-round 67 before recording four birdies in his second-round 73.
• Durham is tied for 27th at 1-under-par 143 (67-76). His opening round featured seven birdies, including three straight on Nos. 15-17. Beginning on No. 4, Durham birdied two of his first three holes to help set the tone for his 67. He added four birdies in the second round, bringing his total to 11 through 36 holes.
• Dylan Lewis joins Durham in a tie for 27th at 1-under-par 143 (72-71). Lewis led Elon's lineup in the second round with a 1-under-par 71, making birdies on Nos. 6, 9, 11 and 17. He recorded four birdies in each round Monday.
• William Carr is tied for 36th at even-par 144 (71-73). Carr registered five birdies in his opening-round 71, including three across Nos. 15-18. He added three birdies in the second round, birdieing the par-5 second, sixth and 17th holes.
• Drew Yeagley is tied for 51st at 3-over-par 147 (69-78). Starting on No. 2, Yeagley birdied three of his final four holes in the opening round, closing with birdies on Nos. 16, 18 and 1 to finish with a 3-under-par 69. He totaled five birdies in the opening round and three in the second.
• Competing as an individual, Bence Somogyi is tied for 27th at 1-under-par 143 (72-71). Somogyi made three birdies in each round, following an even-par opening round with a 1-under-par 71.
