LYNCHBURG, Va. – Junior
Adriana Clarke set a new school record in the weight throw to lead the Elon women's track and field team at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational on Friday at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex.
Clarke helped the Phoenix dominate the first day of the two-day meet, as the Yulee, Florida, native finished second in the weight throw event with a distance of 19.61m, breaking the school record by 0.41m. Clarke's performance made her No. 49 in all of NCAA Division I for the weight throw event.
Isabella Johnson followed in third place with a personal best throw of 18.49m, tying her in third place on the top-10 school performances list.
Overall, the Phoenix recorded eight new personal bests, eight top-10 finishes, four individual season bests and one school record throughout the meet, with four athletes moving up the school's all-time top-10 performance lists.
Mya Lee set a new personal best in the 60-meters with a time of 7.61, tying her for third on Elon's top-10 60-meter performances. The top-10 performances continued with
Ja'mia Johnson's 60-meter hurdles time of 8.60. Johnson is now second on Elon's all-time performances list.
Freshman
Irene Blanco Garcia set two new personal bests with her fourth-place finish in the long jump (5.49m) and her time of 9.28 in the 60-meter hurdles. Sophomore
Olivia Waymer also set a personal best in the 60-meter hurdles, with a time of 9.07.
Jenna Gilman placed seventh in the 800-meters (2:11.97), followed by
Gabi Walker in eighth with a time of 2:12.56, her season-best. Duna Viñals achieved a top-10 finish in the 400-meters, finishing ninth with a time of 56.88. Junior
Cami Glebocki finished third in the 5000-meters, setting a new personal best of 17:25.08.
ON DECK
The indoor regular season concludes tomorrow with the Phoenix competing at the second day of the Darius Dixon Invitational and the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston.
