Phoenix Drops Final Two Games At Charleston Southern

Elon Returns To Latham Park Tuesday

North Charleston, S.C. – Elon suffered a pair of losses in North Charleston, S.C. Sunday. The Phoenix fell in game two, after play resumed Saturday afternoon before dropping the final game of the series Sunday night.  
 
Jackson Alford put together a quality two games on Sunday. Alford finished the day 3-for-6 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBIs.  
 
Sam Nomura and Mike Staiano were strong out of the bullpen. Nomura fired a scoreless three innings in game three while Staiano struck out an Elon personal best four batters in game two.  
 
Elon falls to 4-3 on the season while Charleston Southern improves to 7-0.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED - Game Two 
  • The Phoenix fell behind early after a bases clearing double brought home three runs for the Buccaneers in the second inning.  
  • Elon answered back following the game's postponement. After runners reached second and third with one out, Jackson Alford brought home one on a sacrifice fly to make it a 3-1 game.  
  • Charleston Southern countered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 5-1 game.  
  • Gavin Bogdanchik brought home a run in the following half inning after reaching on an error.  
  • The Phoenix nearly completed the comeback with two runs in the top of the eighth. Charlie Evans singled home the first with his first career RBI before Jake Hajdu brought in the other on a sacrifice fly. A one run deficit was the closest Elon would come and dropped game two, 5-4.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED - Game Three 
  • Elon came out swinging in the third game of the series. The Phoenix opened up game three with five unasnwered runs.  
  • Brian DuRoff brought the first run of the game home on a sacrifice fly. In the second inning, Elon pounced with four runs, all with two outs. Nate Sterling got the ball rolling with an RBI single, which was followed by Alford doing the same.  
  • DuRoff drove in his second and third runs of the game on an RBI double one batter later to give the Phoenix a 5-0 lead.  
  • Charleston Southern countered again with four runs in the bottom of the third.  
  • Elon responded with a run of their own after Simon Hoffman scored on a passed ball to make it a 6-4 game.  
  • The Buccaneers answered with seven runs in the fourth to give themselves a lead they would hold for the rest of the game.  
  • Both teams brought a run home in the fifth inning before four innings of zeros for both pitching staffs. Charleston Southern took game three, 12-7.  
 
  
 
QUICK HITS 
  • Elon falls to 4-3 on the season.  
  • The Phoenix has now dropped six straight games to Charleston Southern.  
  • Jackson Alford continued his strong start to the season against the Buccaneers. Alford extended his hitting streak to four games and drove in a run in all three games of the series.  
  • Brian DuRoff drove in a season high three runs in game three of the series. DuRoff is second on the Phoenix in RBI with seven.  
  • Mike Staiano struck out four batters in game two. Staiano has multiple strikeouts in all three of his appearances so far this season.  
  • Sam Nomura delivered three innings of scoreless relief in game three. In four appearances so far this season, Nomura has not allowed a run, and batters are hitting .172 against him. 
  • Jared Hall picked up his first multi-hit game with the Phoenix. With three hits in the two games on Sunday, Hall extended his hitting streak to seven games.  
  • Jake Hajdu reached double-digit, season RBIs in game three. Hajdu did not reach the 10 RBI mark in 2025 until April 26th against North Carolina A&T.

Elon will return to Latham Park on Tuesday for a game against Longwood. First pitch between the Phoenix and Lancers is at 4 PM.
