ELON – The Elon women's basketball team used a balanced second-half effort to pull away and secure a 70-57 win over Northeastern on Sunday afternoon.
Quinzia Fulmore paced Elon with 12 points on a perfect 6-for-6 shooting night, while
Kamryn Doty and
Ashanti Fox chipped in 11 points apiece.
Laila Anderson led the Phoenix on the boards, tying her season high with six rebounds.
Elon improved to 13–13 overall and 8–6 in CAA play, while Northeastern dropped to 7–18 overall and 3-12 in conference action.
THE RUNDOWN
- Elon jumped out to a 6-2 lead over Northeastern and later extended it to 9-4. The Huskies trimmed the deficit to 11-8 before the teams traded baskets, with Elon leading 13-10 after one.
- Northeastern opened the second quarter on a 5-2 run to tie the game at 15-15 with 8:38 remaining. Elon answered with a 5-0 run to go up 20-15. After the teams traded baskets and the Huskies cut the lead to 26-25, the Phoenix closed the half with three straight scores to take a 33-25 advantage into halftime.
- The Phoenix used a balanced 15-4 run to push the lead to 48-29. Northeastern responded with three straight baskets to make it 48-35, but Elon maintained a 50-37 lead heading into the fourth.
- The teams traded baskets midway through the final quarter, with Elon leading 64-51. The Phoenix added back-to-back baskets to extend the lead to 68-51 with 2:38 remaining and later sealed a 70-57 victory.
NOTES
- Quinzia Fulmore reached double figures for the third time this season, adding two rebounds and two assists.
- Ashanti Fox posted 11 points for her 12th double-figure game, shooting 6-for-7 at the line with a team-best two steals.
- Kamryn Doty added 11 points on 4-for-5 shooting, including 3-for-4 from three.
- Maraja Pass led the team in assists for the 15th time this season and scored eight points, matching Tyana Walker's eight.
- Laila Anderson tied her season high with six rebounds, while Ruby Willard added seven points, one shy of her season high.
- Elon outshot Northeastern 41% to 28% in the first half and held the Huskies to 2-for-10 from three.
- The Phoenix won the battle on the offensive glass for the 18th time this season, holding a slight 11-10 edge over the Huskies.
- Elon's nine home wins are its most since the 2021-22 season, when the Phoenix went 10-4 at home.
- Elon used the same starting lineup of Laila Anderson, LaNae' Corbett, Maraja Pass, Tyana Walker, and Tamia Watkins.
UP NEXT
The Phoenix begins a three-game road swing next weekend, traveling to Hofstra and Stony Brook. Tipoff against the Pride is set for Friday at 6 p.m., while the matchup against the Seawolves is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m.
