PALM CITY, Fla. – Elon senior
Ashley Lafontaine shot a 2-under-par 70 in Tuesday's final round to post a top-10 individual finish and lead the Phoenix women's golf team to a tie for seventh place at the Advance Golf Partners Collegiate. Elon finished the three-day, 54-hole tournament at 50-over 914 (310-306-298), improving its team score each round at Hammock Creek Golf Club.
Lafontaine recorded her fifth top-10 finish in six tournaments this season, tying for ninth at 5-over 221 (75-76-70). After beginning the day tied for 17th, she rebounded from a bogey on her opening hole, No. 5, with a birdie at No. 9 and an eagle on No. 15.
Freshman
Lilli Downer shot 1-over 73 for the second straight round and finished her first spring tournament in a tie for 37th at 14-over 230 alongside teammate
Kelly Zhao.
Emma Hansen, at 19-over for the event, carded a 6-over 78 in the final round and tied for 53rd overall.
Virginia Tech (+4) won the team title by 31 strokes, while Hokie golfer Emily Matthews (E) earned medalist honors.
